What is ICBAI AI Maturity Certification?
The ICBAI AI Maturity Certification represents a globally recognized framework for assessing and validating an organization’s artificial intelligence implementation maturity.
The annually renewable certification scheme is aligned to five essential pillars and five maturity levels designed to help organizations demonstrate compliance with AI regulations, identify improvement opportunities, and showcase their commitment to responsible AI practices.
ICBAI AI Maturity certification demonstrates that an organisation is implementing AI responsibly by adhering to industry best practices across Governance and Ethics, Strategy and Alignment, Technology and Infrastructure, People and Culture, and Processes and Efficiency dimensions.
A team of experts review the scheme at regular intervals to ensure it stays effective in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
After achieving ICBAI AI Maturity certification at your appropriate level, you can apply for advanced levels as your organization’s AI capabilities mature.

ICBAI AI Maturity Self-Assessment Process
ICBAI AI Maturity Verified Self-Assessment works in the format of a comprehensive questionnaire.
Organisations answer a series of 75 questions that address the five pillars of AI maturity across five progressive maturity levels:
- Governance and Ethics: Policies, compliance, ethical AI usage, and regulatory alignment
- Strategy and Alignment: AI alignment with organizational goals and business value
- Technology and Infrastructure: Technical foundation, AI tools, platforms, and data systems
- People and Culture: AI talent, training, and cultural readiness for AI adoption
- Processes and Efficiency: Integration of AI into workflows, optimization, and measurable outcomes
The answers must be signed-off by a board member or equivalent and are then marked by an independent ICBAI Assessor who will determine your organization’s maturity level across each dimension.
I’m Ready to Certify for ICBAI AI Maturity
When you are ready, you will need to register for certification and make a payment.
Once your application and payment have been received, you will receive your assessment.
A senior member of the board or equivalent from your organisation must e-sign a document to verify that all the answers are true and then a qualified ICBAI Assessor will mark the answers.
Once you have submitted your assessment for marking, your Assessor may send you feedback.
You then have 5 working days to address any feedback and resubmit.
Once you pass, you will receive your certificate and digital badge, and be listed on our directory of ICBAI AI Maturity certified organisations.
You will need to renew your certificate annually as it expires after twelve months.
We remove companies from our certified organisation list if they are not re-certified within twelve months of their last certificate.
IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ BEFORE MAKING YOUR PURCHASE
When your payment is received, we will send you login details to access the online assessment platform to enable you to begin your certification.
You will have six months to complete your assessment before your account is deleted.
Unfortunately we cannot issue a refund if this happens, so please do not apply until you think you are ready for the assessment.
Second chances:
If you have failed to achieve your desired maturity level on your first attempt, don’t worry, you will have five working days to make any adjustments that are needed and your Assessor will review it a second time, without extra charge.
You will be required to pay the assessment fee again if:
- you fail to achieve certification on your second attempt and wish to submit a third time.
- you take longer than five working days to resubmit your answers.
What does the assessment fee include?
The assessment fee charged by ICBAI covers the cost of certification as well as having an independent Assessor confirm your organization’s AI maturity level based on your assessment responses.
The assessment fee does not include any AI consulting services.
Self Assessment is priced according to the size of your organization
The Legal Bit
You must complete the assessment questionnaire fully, accurately and honestly.
If any information you submit as part of the assessment process is found to be inaccurate or misleading we may immediately revoke your certificate (or terminate the assessment, without return of the fee, if not yet completed).
This would mean that your organisation will not appear on the certificate search facility on our website as an organisation that has a valid certificate.
Many organisations including public bodies use this facility to check the validity of their suppliers/potential supplier’s certification.
ICBAI also reserves the right to report and take further action in relation to any serious misrepresentations or unauthorized use of the scheme logo and other intellectual property rights.
